Winter Daze

Things are pretty quiet on our little farm, winter is in full effect and we are all in a little hibernated daze....except for Baxter! He is growing fast and has doubled in size since he joined our family. He is learning nearly as fast as he is growing. We decided to clicker train him and he has taken to it well, learning everything from sitting, laying, shaking, and almost rolling over on command.

He loves playing in the snow, chewing on sticks, and stealing pieces of wood kindling when we're not looking

Our quiet little piece of the planet.
We have been a little behind in finishing our upstairs and updating here in terms of our progress, but we hope that will change soon! The upstairs has been fully painted in primer and all the electrical is done. Once we get the insulation in the attic and the floor refinished in the master bedroom (hint:lots of hand scraping) we can finally stop dreaming of living in our master bedroom and make the move out of the future utility room downstairs!

Speaking of insulation, that's what 100 bags of cellulose look like. At around 20 lbs a bag, I was not ready to carry them two at a time through the house and up the stairs, so I improvised. I tossed 20 bag onto the porch roof a trip, then carried them through the window; I was done in no time. That amount of insulation should get us around R-60 in the main attic and above the downstairs bedroom.

At 20 lbs a bag, I was not ready to load it all in one room, so I divided them up.
Last but not least, the chickens are handling winter just fine, at 6-8 eggs a day, we always have an abundance.

Until next time.
