When we first looked at the house, we knew the main focus was to address the 2nd floor. Notice the electrical work before heading up the stairs. At some point the electrical was updated from the old cloth wrapped wiring to the current romex. However, being that this old farmhouse's walls were wood slabs and lath and plaster, the former occupants decided to run the wiring to the outside of the walls.
In addition to the wiring, the exterior walls lacked any insulation.

As a bonus, a feature of the house that we had never seen before was a full sized door hung from the ceiling, the attics access. Unfortunately this was to go in the demo / reconstruction
